On average, a teenager spends 17.5 hours on homework a week (survey of teachers done by the University of Phoenix College of Education). That’s 2.5 hours each night spent on homework.

Article

At first glance, this might seem like a reasonable amount of time for the average student to devote to his studies. That is, until you consider the fact that most students spend approximately 35 hours a week in school. Now, If we take the amount of time spent in school and add the amount of time spent on homework, the outcome is 42.5 hours a week.

Let’s also assume that the student is employed and averages about 20 hours per week during the school year. For the sake of argument, let's also assume that the student actively participates in extracurricular activities, which takes up roughly 30 hours per week.

Add it all up and what's the final outcome? 92.5 hours per week. This leaves only 27.5 hours of free time. And how does the exhausted student spend his free time? Catching up on sleep, of course. Even if the student spends all 27.5 hours of free time sleeping, he will still only be able to sleep for 5.5 hours each week night. This is simply not enough.

So what's your opinion? Good or nah?
