On November 21, 2014 the Catching Fire sequel was released into theatres. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Sutherland. The movie is based on the book “Mockingjay” the final book in The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins.
Lionsgate announced that the film will be split into two parts. The film is 2 hours and 3 minutes long. The plot of Mockingjay: Part 1 follows Katniss Everdeen in District 13. She is under the leadership of President Coin who wants Katniss to be the symbol of the mass rebellion. Katniss fights throughout the movie trying at any attempt to save Peeta who was kidnapped by the Capitol. However, will she be able to save him, without President Snow killing him first?
I think, the movie could have had more action, but I think that they were building it all up for the next Hunger Games. It was still a fantastic movie to see, if you have seen the other ones. A soundtrack was released prior to the movie. Jennifer Lawrence sang a song in the movie, called “The Hanging Tree”, which is featured in the movies score. “The Hanging Tree” climbed the iTunes charts on November 25, 2014 which reached #4. It debuted number #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and will be released to radios on December 9, 2014.
On November 20, 2014, some showings were reportedly canceled in Thailand because protesters were using the three-finger salute at demonstrations against the country's military government. Katniss says in the movie, “If you burn, you burn with us.” A protester also wrote that on the arch in St. Louis, Missouri as in relation to the Ferguson unrest about the shooting of Michael Brown.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released on DVD and Blu-ray sometime in March.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 will be released into theatres on November 20, 2015.
