As the last bit of summer fades away and school kicks off into full gear, this year’s seniors are excited for their last year of high school. Although every school year is all about the seniors and the countdown to graduation, it’s nice to step back and remember the students that have already graduated. I had the pleasure of interviewing Danielle Wilson, a golden senior from the class of 2014.

Alexis: So first, how are you enjoying college?

Danielle: I love college! It’s so fun, and I’ve made so many new friends. Plus, my class are the same size, or a little bigger than my high school classes, so I pretty well know all of my teachers one-on-one.

Alexis: That’s good! Is college similar to how you imagined it’d be?

Danielle: Yes and no! I expected college to have harder and more fast-paced classed, and that happened. But, I also expected to have all huge lecture hall classes, and I only have one of those. Also, you think it’s easy for you to skip class, but it isn’t. All of my teachers have a way of taking attendance; in smaller classes, the teachers know us, but in bigger classes, the teacher does pop quizzes. But that really depends on your schedule, too. You also have a lot more free time than you think. I can take a 2 hour nap everyday and still have time to get up, eat dinner, do my homework, and watch TV. And making friends is easy. You’ll always find friendly people everywhere. I’m best friends with the people on my floor of the residence hall.

Alexis: That’s awesome, I hope everyone’s college experience is like your’s! Do you miss anything back in the Bootheel that’s not in Columbia?

Danielle: How laid-back it is in the Boot, and how we have so many things that are different from city life. Like, in the Bootheel, going to bonfires and riding backroads every weekend is a normal thing. Plus, the little things like riding around town with your friends and just being with who you grew up with.

Alexis: True, I did all of those things this weekend! If you hadn’t have gone to Mizzou (The University of Missouri), what would’ve been your second choice for college?

Danielle: Mizzou was my first and only choice, but if I had to choose another school it’d probably be Mississippi State! MIZ all the way, though!

Alexis: Mizzou is a great school, I’ve been looking into it myself to be honest! Last question, what is the best piece of advice you can give to the senior class of 2015?

Danielle: Do not slack on scholarships! Seriously, work as hard as you can on them. Also, utilize A+ and any college courses offered to you; try and get as many basics out of the way as possible, it puts you on a faster track to graduation, plus, I have smaller classes, and you’ll get to work on your degree faster. I’m coming into Mizzou with 27 credit hours, and all of my academic advisors were so impressed and way more willing to help.

Alexis: Thank you Danielle for your time, and good luck in all of your classes! The Boot misses you!

Danielle: Thanks, Alexis!
